Breeder Information & Breeder List
The
CKCSCCO does not endorse or recommend any cavalier breeder. It
is your responsibility to do research to assure that any of
these breeders will meet your personal standards. The breeders
listed below are members of the CKCSCCO and have paid an annual
fee to be included on this website breeder list for your
convenience.
Breeders are more likely to respond/return phone calls and
emails to purchase a cavalier if you live near them. Do not
expect them to return a long-distance phone call; and if they do
– offer to call them right back on your own dime. It may take
months to locate a puppy of the color and sex that you want from
a breeder that you want to work with. All reputable breeders
discourage impulse purchases (that is how pet stores operate);
and prefer to meet the entire family that will be living with
and caring for the cavalier. You may also want to visit an AKC
show in your area, and meet and talk with breeders there. You
can often find these events listed on the Infodog website; along
with ring times and show times for cavalier spaniels listed the
week prior to the show. Wait until AFTER the cavaliers have
shown to approach the exhibitors – they are watching and
grooming their dogs prior to that time and need to listen and
watch for the correct time to enter the ring with their dog. Be
prepared with your name, phone and email address listed on a
card to give to breeders at the show that you want to visit or
converse with further.
Several cavalier breeders are reluctant to sell the breed to
families with small children in the home. They all have various
reasons for this (perhaps a past experience that turned out
badly). Cavaliers are generally excellent with children; HOWEVER
they are spaniels. They like to chase butterflies, rabbits,
squirrels, and birds – and if the door is left open to your home
– your cavalier may be gone. This is much more difficult to
monitor with small children in the home. This is also the reason
several breeders require the yard to be fenced.
The breeders you find on this list care very much about finding
caring and responsible homes for their cavaliers. When you
contact them, have a list of questions ready, and they will
probably have a list to ask you also! Good luck and enjoy your
search – you will love and appreciate your cavalier that much
more.
